Stefanie Janes, MA, LPC joined the Office of the University of the Ombudsperson in November 2025 as an assistant university ombudsperson. Prior to coming to MSU, she worked in higher education for over a decade in academic advising and student success roles. Stefanie is continually involved with professional organizations, currently serving as President of the Michigan Academic Advising Association (MIACADA). She regularly presents at conferences on topics related to student success and professional mentorship.
Before working in higher education, Stefanie served three terms in AmeriCorps, where she worked on community outreach and development initiatives in various Southeast Michigan community organizations focused on literacy, homelessness and food security. Her background in social justice influences Stefanie’s holistic and equitable approach to helping others navigate their experiences on campus.
Stefanie is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Education in Educational Equity for Higher Education at the University of Colorado Denver. Stefanie holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling and is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) through the State of Michigan. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Development with a minor in Employment and Labor Relations from Oakland University. Stefanie is also trained in implicit bias, human trafficking, and Safe Zone.
